Domani alle 11 gli Internazionali di Vicenza eleggeranno il loro re sulla terra rossa del Tennis Palladio 98, in Contrà della Piarda.
A contendersi lo scettro saranno l’austriaco Lukas Neumayer e Jacopo Vasamì, soprendente diciottenne che aveva ottenuto l’accesso al tabellone principale grazie ad una Gilda card della Federazione.
In attesa dell’evento clou, oggi Adam Heinonen ed Erik Grevelius si sono laureati vincitori del torneo di doppio. La coppia svedese, nata per caso nel 2023, ha sconfitto Francesco Forti e Remy Bertola per 7-6, 7-6, al termine di una finale molto divertente e spettacolare.
Erik Grevelius ha dichiarato:
“Abbiamo iniziato nell’estate del 2023 per caso. Il mio ex compagno si era infortunato e ho chiesto ad Adam se gli andasse di giocare. Abbiamo vinto il nostro primo torneo Futures insieme e, da quel momento in poi, non abbiamo più smesso di fare coppia. Questa settimana ho subìto un piccolo strappo addominale, ma, con l’aiuto del fisioterapista qui, sono riuscito a gestirlo e abbiamo giocato in modo intelligente. In finale abbiamo vinto due tie-break. È stata una partita molto dura, ovviamente. Penso che siamo rimasti molto resilienti per tutto l’incontro. Loro sono due ottimi colpitori e sanno spingere la palla davvero forte. Ma credo che abbiamo tirato fuori delle ottime giocate nei tie-break e siamo riusciti a portarla a casa, cosa di cui siamo davvero felici.”
Nella prima semifinale, l’austriaco Luka Neumayer si è preso la rivincita sul campione della passata edizione, il taiwanese Tseng Chun Hsin, che lo aveva battuto in finale. Come allora, anche oggi la partita è stata molto equilibrata, con Tseng che ha vinto il primo set per 7-5, ma ha poi dovuto subire il prepotente ritorno di Neumayer, che ha fatto sua la seconda partita per 6-2. Nel terzo e decisivo set, i due giocatori hanno difeso bene il proprio turno di servizio e si è arrivati al tie-break. Tseng, sempre imperturbabile, sembrava avere qualche riserva di energia in più, ma Neumayer ha approfittato di un piccolo passaggio a vuoto dell’avversario e, anche con l’aiuto di un nastro fortunato, è riuscito a scavare un vantaggio decisivo. 7-4 il parziale: per lui è finale, dal sapore di rivincita.
Dalla seconda semifinale è scaturito un risultato a sorpresa. La testa di serie numero uno del torneo, Stefano Travaglia, che finora non aveva perso nemmeno un set, ha dovuto arrendersi al talento di Jacopo Vasamì, diciottenne promessa del tennis nazionale iscritto al tabellone principale solo grazie ad un wild card della Federazione. 7-5, 7-6 il risultato finale di una match teso ed equilibrato in cui, soprendentemente, Vasamì è stato più efficace dell’avversario nei punti che contavano, riuscendo anche a recuperare un break di svantaggio nel secondo set.

While awaiting the main event, Adam Heinonen and Erik Grevelius were crowned doubles champions today. The Swedish pair, who teamed up by chance in 2023, defeated Francesco Forti and Remy Bertola 7-6, 7-6 at the end of a very entertaining and spectacular final.
Erik Grevelius said:
“We started by chance in the summer of 2023. My former partner had got injured, so I asked Adam if he wanted to play. We won our first Futures tournament together and, from that moment on, we never stopped playing as a team. This week I suffered a small abdominal tear, but with the help of the physiotherapist here, I managed to deal with it and we played smart. In the final we won two tie-breaks. It was a very tough match, of course. I think we stayed very resilient throughout the match. They are two excellent ball-strikers and can really hit the ball hard. But I think we came up with some great plays in the tie-breaks and managed to bring it home, which we are really happy about.”
In the first semifinal, Austria’s Luka Neumayer got his revenge on last year’s champion, Taiwan’s Tseng Chun Hsin, who had beaten him in the final. As on that occasion, today’s match was also very evenly balanced, with Tseng winning the first set 7-5 before having to withstand Neumayer’s powerful comeback, as the Austrian took the second set 6-2. In the third and decisive set, both players held serve well and the match went to a tie-break. Tseng, as unflappable as ever, seemed to have a little more energy in reserve, but Neumayer took advantage of a brief lapse from his opponent and, helped also by a fortunate net cord, managed to build a decisive lead. The tie-break ended 7-4: for him, a place in the final, with the taste of revenge.
The second semi-final resulted in a surprise result. The tournament’s top seed, Stefano Travaglia, who hadn’t lost a single set so far, had to surrender to the talent of Jacopo Vasamì, an eighteen-year-old promising Italian tennis player who entered the main draw only thanks to a wild card from the Federation. The final score was 7-5, 7-6 in a tense and balanced match in which, oprenently, Vasami was more effective on points than he counted, even managing to recover a break in the second set.
